Maharashtra State Services Examination (MPSC)
MPSC Mains Exam
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has revised the MPSC Mains Exam syllabus, making it more descriptive and similar to the UPSC exam pattern. The key changes include:
Increase in the number of papers from six to nine.
Total marks for Mains increased from 800 to 1,750.
Two language papers are now qualifying in nature and will not count toward merit.
Seven compulsory papers, including one essay paper, four general studies papers, and two optional subject papers (from a list of 26 subjects).
- Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality
The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
Preference may be given to candidates domiciled in Maharashtra.
- Educational Qualification
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or Economics (with Statistics as a major subject) from a recognized university.
Additional certifications in statistics are advantageous.
- Age Limit
General Category: 19 to 38 years.
SC/ST/OBC: Upper age relaxation up to 43 years.
Persons with Disabilities (PwD): Additional relaxation of 10 years.
Ex-servicemen: As per government norms.
- Language Proficiency
Proficiency in Marathi (reading, writing, and speaking) is required.
- Physical and Mental Fitness
Candidates must meet the physical and mental fitness standards required for the role.
- Domicile Requirement (For Reserved Categories)
Candidates claiming reservation benefits must provide valid domicile and caste certificates from Maharashtra.

Mains
Interview
A candidate must clear each stage to move to the next.

Interview Process
Duration: 20-30 minutes.
Panel: 3-5 members (including experts from different fields).
Purpose: To assess personality, general knowledge, decision-making ability, and communication skills.
Focus Areas:
Administrative and social awareness.
Current events (state, national, international).
Thought process and analytical skills.
